Have you ever had one of those days where you are just overwhelmed?
Today is one of those days for me!!
This post is just me venting…that is all. This is my escape from it all. I am not doing this to upset anyone, or change anyone’s mind (one way or the other). This is just Laura Black (PBJ), getting some things off of her chest, in the best way she knows how.
These are MY emotions, MY opinions, MY thoughts, and MY life!
Tears are rolling down my face. I feel like I am on a roller coaster right now.
I LOVE my Plant-Based Lifestyle
Happy tears…Brings a smile to my face when I see others feeling better, living this amazing plant-based lifestyle. Those getting off their medications, and enjoying their NEW LIFE!
Excited tears…WOW!! One more person is going to “give it a go”! One more person said, “Hey, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Where do I begin?”
Proud tears…When your PBJ family is constantly sharing their success, and how they are getting off of their medications. Sharing healthy recipes/tips with each other. Most importantly, encouraging and motivating one another.
I HATE my Plant-Based Lifestyle
Sad tears…Breaks my heart to see other’s suffering the loss of a loved one, or those suffering at the hands of a preventable illness.
Worried tears…Dreading that phone call from our loved ones (or about us). “I have cancer. I have diabetes. I have heart disease. I have Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Dementia, etc… Or worse yet, that phone call that says, “I am so sorry, he/she didn’t make it”.
Angry tears…I will not comment on this one. Well, maybe in a little bit.
I could go on and on…
I wish I could turn off my emotions sometimes.
Why do I care SO MUCH about other’s well being, and their health?
Why does it bother me so much when I see someone else suffering from the loss of their loved one, just like I did when I lost my daddy?
Why can’t I just live my life, and not worry about everyone else? (I am working on this, it is just not going so well today)
I am not gonna lie. It hurts to watch friends and family pop pills for illnesses that I know are caused by the foods they consume, and the fact that these medications/illnesses can be eliminated by changing what goes on the end of their FORK.
It breaks my heart to know these same people would prefer to eat foods that are killing them, over foods that can save their life.
The question I keep asking myself is….WHY??
I mean really…are broccoli and beans so evil?? You would think they were asked to eat dirt.
On a side note: Since I started living a plant-based lifestyle, I have found that I would much rather eat dirt, than processed, cancer-filled junk, and sick, dead, antibiotic filled animals who suffered every single moment of their life so I could go through the drive-thru (three times a day in my case, back in the day), and order my value meal, because I was too busy to spend the same amount of time in my kitchen preparing a healthy meal. It takes the same amount of time for me to drive to the fast food joint, sit in the drive-thru line, get my food and drive back home to scarf down empty calories, as it does for me to make a healthy meal at home.
I honestly thought I never had time to cook. Guess what? I had to find time when I was sick. Now I use my paid time off at work, for VACATIONS. I also had to make time to go to the doctor, and spend money on illnesses that were caused by what I ate.
Are you getting the picture?
I am learning that most people are choosing to ignore the fact that the foods they are eating ARE killing them. They would much rather pop a pill for their illness (cover up their ouchie with a band-aid), than to change their diet (heal their ouchie). There are others, that honestly do not know any better, and just need to watch Forks over Knives, or Food Inc, for examples.
It is especially disheartening to see kids scarfing down fast food, sucking down soda after soda, and eating candy and sugar, like it will not be there the next day. FYI..sugar is a DRUG. Kids are constantly sick with some sort of illness, and many children are developing diabetes (NOT COOL) and dying of CANCER!
REALLY? THIS MUST STOP!!
NO EXCUSES!! (I will get to those in a minute)
ALL so certain “BIG MONEY” companies can RAPE us of our loved ones, and put money in THEIR pockets?
I want to know….WHY?
Why are so many people refusing to OPEN THEIR EYES to what is going on?
There is NO MONEY in BROCCOLI, as my friend Ellen Jaffe Jones says. However, there is plenty of money to be made from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, pharmaceutical companies, and the BIG AG food industry (cough…meat & dairy…cough).
Oh lord…make it STOP!
How many people do you know who have died from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc…???
Why are we all “walking for a cure”??
HELLO!! The cure is what you EAT!!
Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. ~Hippocrates
I ask, what is so drastic about this plant-based lifestyle?
Having your chest cut open isn’t drastic? Having your gallbladder taken out, is NOT drastic? Having to give yourself insulin shots every day for the rest of your life is NOT drastic? Having to go through chemo is NOT drastic?
I am not saying that surgeries are not necessary, and in some cases the above are needed. My question is, has that person ever been told to change their diet FIRST?? I am also not saying these things will never happen to me, because the first 38 years of my life, I treated my body like crap. We are ALL born with a loaded gun. However, it is our lifestyle choices that pull the trigger.
I am doing my absolute best to STOP pulling the trigger. I consider myself lucky up to this point, and am doing my best to NOT leave this earth, the way my dad did, which was TOO EARLY, and IN PAIN! I am most certain my dad would have wanted to walk me down that aisle, when I married my “future PBJ”.
So my question still remains.
Why would anyone NOT want to live a healthy life?
Chef AJ shares her personal story detailing the dangerous health consequences of an unhealthy diet, and the body’s miraculous ability to recover and thrive when fed healthy, whole foods. A truly inspirational read.
Chapter 3 in her book, I related to the most. It asks the question, “Do you really want to do this?” She states in her book: “I can hear the little voice in your head screaming “Yeah, but…”
If you are what I lovingly call a YABBUT, let’s go over some of the common fears people have when embracing a new, healthier lifestyle.”
I do believe I replied with all of the following “YABBUT’S”.
- YABBUT #1 – It’s too expensive to eat this way.
- YABBUT #2 – I don’t have the time to prepare healthy food.
- YABBUT #3 – But I can’t live without my (fill in the blank).
- YABBUT #4 – But my friends and family won’t support me in this.
- YABBUT #5 – It’s too hard or I have too much stress.
So….what is YOUR “Yabbut”??
My very first interview question to Chef AJ was:
PB&J: What would you like to share with those thinking about starting a plant-based diet, but are frightened or unsure if they will be able to succeed?
Chef AJ: That just because you may not be able to do everything doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do anything in the direction of optimum health. Like eating more fruits and vegetables, for example and eliminating or decreasing the amount of processed foods and animal products.
I am going to end this post in HAPPY, EXCITED, and PROUD tears, as I think of all of those fabulous PBJ’s who have conquered, or are currently conquering their “YABBUT’s”. I couldn’t be more thrilled to see the lives of so many, changing for the healthier. Will YOU be next?
PLEASE say YES!!
